In the late 1880s Butte Montana boomed as a mining town, and was once named The Richest Hill on Earth. Copper made Butte famous.

The Copper Kings 100 is an endurance run that starts and ends in Butte, beneath the headframe of the Belmont Mine. The single-loop course runs out of town then onto the Continental Divide Trail. Along the way you will enjoy mountain views and glimpses of the city of Butte as you wind around it. At mile 58.6 enjoy a panoramic view of Butte beneath Our Lady of the Rockies before tackling the longest and highest segment of the course. As you leave the forest and return to town, you’ll run pass many historic mines and through the neighborhoods where the miners lived.

Interesting tidbit for you familiar with the Cocodona 250: Butte was once a booming copper mining town, and one of the three Copper Kings in Butte in the late 1800s was William Clark. Clark later purchased the United Verde Mine in Jerome, AZ and Clarkdale, AZ is named after him! Clark’s home in Butte, known as the Copper King Mansion, is open for tours.
